“The diagram is the trigger that activates the generative process and, at the same time,
denes rules, margins, proportions, nuances and dimensions. It acts as the bridge
between the abstract and the material. This tool conceptually transforms ever changing
information into an aesthetic, communication, a summary and a generator.”
Andrea Sollazzo, Digital Van Berkel. Diagrams, Processes, Models of UNStudio. Basel: Birkhäuser, 2011, p.24

The aim of the course is to impart an understanding of the fundamentals of visual
communication in design and representation techniques. Students will have an
understanding on the three dimensionality of an object and its representation on two
dimensional medium; grasping movement and its explanation methods in diagrams;
realizing multiple sections of objects and its representation methods. In this course,
students are expected to use technical drawing software and their larger capabilities,
along with hand drafting with conventions.

Fundamental concepts and conventions of drafting techniques and diagrams.
Experimental techniques in representing three dimensional objects in two dimensional
medium. Diagramming movements – dynamics. Sectioning, representing change. Conventions in drawing/plan, section, axon. Creating and denning patterns.
